Fintan Magee

Residents have been discussing it for weeks. On
the wall next to Showroom Arnhem, on the Portaal apartment complex, you can admire a huge, realistic wall painting from Australian graffiti artist Fintan Magee. They watch as his murals keep growing, almost surreally. Fintan is not afraid of tackling large-scale projects. His work in Arnhem is relatively small by his standards.

His work is about climate change, a topic he considers appropriate for the Netherlands, which lies below sea level. On its own, and unlike most street art, this work has no political message. Fintan’s murals can be interpreted in many ways and invite self-mockery. He tells complex stories in a light-hearted way, with figurative humour.

Since graduating from art school in 2009, his work has appeared in public spaces throughout Australia, but also on the walls of derelict locations in Brisbane, where his career as a guerrilla graffiti artist began.
