Contact Gonzo & Arnhemse Meisjes/Generale Oost
On June 2 - 5, the dance group Arnhemse Meisjes and contact Gonzo will shake the city to its foundations, taking over the Stadstheater (June 2 and 3), the street near Gebouw 026 and Park Sonsbeek (June 4 and 5). They will turn the everyday life of Arnhem’s residents upside down, introducing a new form of aggression, and creating chaos and connection.
Attract, repel. Jump or land. Residents and visitors will dance, move, and get to know each other in a special way by means of Japanese contact improvisation. These movements rely on physical strength as well as dexterity, and consist of a combination of martial arts and Internet trends.
The name contact Gonzo refers to Gonzo journalism: raw, hard, and subjective. A contrast is formed by the Arnhemse Meisjes, a group of professional dancers from Arnhem. This collective moves together, inspires each other, and shares ideas and experiences. Generale Oost, a well-known production house in Arnhem for professional young talent, has introduced Arnhemse Meisjes. Are you curious about what this transACTION will result in?
For SONSBEEK '16, theatre and dance production house Generale Oost was invited by curators ruangrupa to participate in their theme transACTION. This resulted in bringing together the all-female dance collective Arnhemse Meisjes from Arnhem with the all-male performance collective contact Gonzo from Japan. Both collectives actively seek out spaces off the beaten track to perform and interact with the audience.
During SONSBEEK '16, they will collaborate for the first time and share their adventure with the audience on 2 and 3 June in the Stadstheater, prior to the dance performance Danceroads, and on 4 and 5 June in Park Sonsbeek.
Generale Oost is a production house for emerging artists and is more than happy to introduce dance collective Arnhemse Meisjes in the SONSBEEK '16.
